Mitchell is the recipient of a Meet the Composer: Creative Connections grant for his score for RIVETS! This grant is sponsored by MetLIife, ASCAP, BMI and the Aaron Copland Fund, among others.

Mitchell has begun work on the score for "Saving the Bay," a 4-part series of one hour documentaries, narrated by Robert Redford, about the San Francisco Bay and the birth of the environmental movement. It is being produced by Northern California Public Television ( KQED). This will be an epic symphonic score that will reflect the natural grandeur of one of the world's great estuaries. Project completiopn estimeted to be mid-October, 2008. Stay tuned for broadcast dates.

2 new films with scores by Mitchell were premiered at the Victoria Theater in San Francisco as part of the Scary Cow film competition. Time Addict (produced and directed by Conrad Cimarra) recieved awards for Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Acting, Outstanding Editing and...Outstanding Musical Score.
Febuary, 2008
World premier of a new musical (RIVETS) with music by Mitchell Covington, book and lyrics by Kathy McCarty. It is a play about the women who worked in the SF Bay Area shipyards during WWII. the show opened with 5 performances at the Knox Center for the Performing Arts near San Francisco. The show was already in rehearsals when Mitchell was brought on board. In just 3 weeks he wrote 16 songs, typeset over 60 pages of music, orchestrated and recorded 17 accompaniment and underscore tracks for the performances. The show recieved an enthusiastic audience response and favorable reviews. It is scheduled to be produced again in October, 2008.

Mitchell has been selected to compose the score for ONCE BEAUTIFUL PAST, directed by Rory Dean. Currently in post-production, Once beautiful Past is scheduled for release in December of 2007. A reclusive father facing a progressive illness must come to terms with his self-interested girlfriend in order to reconnect with his estranged daughter before time runs out.

Mitchell has been selected to compose the sound track for PANACEA, currently in pre-production. With locations in North Carolina and Florida, Panacea will be a sweeping and thrilling action piece. "When a cure is found for society's most bothersome ills, the choice becomes freedom or security. Panacea is a futuristic tale is of a band of freedom-seeking outcasts undertaking one last-ditch effort to save society." Panacea is scheduled for release in early 2008

Mitchell composed the theme song for HOPE WALKS. The worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic has resulted in 15 million orphans and vulnerable children, with 6,100 being added to this number daily. Hope Walks is a walk to educate children and adults in this country and to raise funds for orphan programs that help meet their social, spiritual and basic needs-- health, food, shelter and education.
